When the sellers saw their Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, home after staging, they had a surprising reaction: “Now we do not want to sell anymore!”
They were joking, but the sentiment captured what had changed. The home still had its familiar quirks. With a thoughtful staging plan, though, its living spaces offered a fresh perspective on what made it a welcoming place to live.
That transformation began with a practical challenge: helping two separate living spaces feel purposeful.
Giving each room a reason to be there
The property had personalized features, including cat doors in several interior doors and cosmetic DIY repairs. It also had two sitting areas that needed distinct identities so buyers could understand how they might use both.
Nathalie staged five rooms, focusing on the main living spaces. In the front room, she used lighter colors and softer furnishings to create the feeling of a sunroom or secondary sitting area.
The finished space offered a clear invitation to slow down. A light upholstered sofa, an accent chair, and a round coffee table formed a comfortable seating arrangement. Soft textiles and greenery complemented the room’s natural light, while the wood stove remained a distinctive feature.
Rather than leaving buyers to wonder what to do with another living area, the furnishings showed them a possibility: a place to read, enjoy a quiet morning, or sit down for a conversation.
A home does not need to be flawless to feel inviting
For real estate agents, this project illustrates the value of addressing how a home lives alongside how it looks.
Cosmetic imperfections can draw attention during a showing. A clear furniture plan gives buyers more to consider, including the usefulness of a room, its natural light, and how it could fit into their daily routines.
Here, staging helped give the spaces definition while working with the home’s existing character.
Fifteen offers and a lasting impression
The listing received 15 offers and sold for $50,100 over asking, earning recognition in the RESA® Sold Over List Price Club.
Staging was one part of the home’s preparation and sale, but the sellers’ response offers another meaningful measure of the experience: they later referred Nathalie to friends preparing to sell.
For agents in Shrewsbury and the surrounding area, the takeaway is worth bringing into the next listing conversation. When a home has an unusual layout or rooms without an obvious purpose, involving a professional home stager can help buyers see possibilities they might otherwise miss.
