What do you do in your spare time?

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, cooking, traveling, white water rafting, and just hanging out.

Tell us about your family life?

Husband-Robert Irvin. Sons-Danny and Tyler Hicks. Stepdaughter-Madalyn Irvin. Stepson-Justin Booth. The boys are all grown and beginning to head out on their own. Madalyn is 11 and spends weekends and vacations with us. We love to have family gatherings mostly centered on a great meal. We all love to be in the kitchen and on Sundays, you’ll usually find us preparing a new family meal (very likely a meal my husband saw on the Chew). We have 3 dogs. Two are German Shepherd Dogs and a Cataluna/Jack Russell mix. They are a big part of our family. During the summer months we spend a lot of time by the pool and our biggest dog, nearly 135 pounds, loves to float around our pool on the raft playing catch while the others watch from the side.

Why did you get involved with Heather’s Heroes?

Lori Murphy first asked me if I’d be willing to help. When she told me Heather’s story; how could I say no? It’s a cause that is close to my heart. My dad died of pancreatic cancer 10 years ago and while I was an adult, it was one of the hardest days of my life. I can’t even begin to imagine what these young girls are feeling, not to mention their mother. Family and friends surrounded me when my dad passed which truly helped me through those days leading to the years following. Heather and the girls need help and the first step is getting their home sold so they can get back to West Virginia to have the support of their family and friends. I believe that everyone has to give back and who better to help than a family who has protected our country, asked nothing in return and now needs our help?

What makes you an average everyday person?

I’m just an average everyday person that gets to do a job I love, helping people realize their dreams. I often feel like one of the luckiest people…I get to meet the greatest people and be a part of an important journey in their lives. It isn’t always easy or even a happy event in some cases, but knowing that I’ve helped someone realize their goal makes every day worthwhile. I get to work with some of the best people I know (my team) who keeps me smiling or helps me get through a stressful day (that happens to all of us). But, at the end of the day, as my husband and kids come through the door, or when we are all in the kitchen cooking together, or we load up and head off for a vacation, it makes my life complete. I’m thankful every day for the amazing family and friends I have…what could be more average than that, and rewarding all at the same time?
